I shared our Ultimate Packing List for International Travel With Kids five years ago before heading out for our first Worldschooling trip. We still use almost everything that was purchased back then so I haven't needed to buy much more for subsequent trips, but we always still need a few new items based on what we've learned along the way.

I've become a minimalist when packing for long trips. We've been stuck dragging around extraneous luggage, and it's never worth it, so in recent years, I've leaned toward bringing just enough. My goal is to pack things that will enhance our experience and may not easily be purchased at a reasonable price at our destination. Ultimately, I want to avoid being forced to pay top dollar for something that we need or will have a hard time going without.

As I shared in the video, brands are generally not important to me, so I only mention them in case you want to find exactly what I'm using. The only brands below that matter to me are the walking sandals. Because they get a ton of use and need to hold up in water, dirt, rocks, and rough terrain, I like to go with what I know so I do have preferences for active footwear brands like Chaco, Keen, and Teva.

While worldschooling in Accra, Ghana, we participated in a wonderful cultural immersion program. After that ended, we moved into different accommodations and launched out on our own. The kids and I spent our days exploring the city and surrounding areas with the most amazing tour guide that we've ever had.

In the months and weeks leading up to our trip, I sprinkled in books about Ghana throughout our learning time. We tried to soak up what we could about the people, the land, and their culture by reading about the lives of children - real and fictional - who spend their days living life in the country we wanted to fall in love with.

For the first two weeks of our time worldschooling in Ghana, we participated in a cultural immersion program that gave us a wonderful introduction to the area and its people. We had the pleasure of sharing an itinerary with two other African American families, so my kids made new friends the moment we arrived, and I can't image a better way to get started on our West African explorations.

After spending a little time in London, we headed to France for some worldschooling in Paris. This has been a #1 destination for our family for a long time. We actually did make it here in 2020, but we arrived the day after The Louvre and The Eiffel Tower were closed for COVID-19.
